In this pepper sauce recipe, I will share with you how to make hot red pepper sauce with fresh peppers.

Homemade hot chilli sauce is a must have for anyone who loves eating spicy foods.

I started making my own hot pepper sauce as a means to ensure that I could enjoy my food the way I wanted it.

In my household, I am the only person with a high tolerance for spicy foods and I love my food spicy.

Whenever I cooked and ate super spicy food at home, my family member were unable to join me because the foods were deemed to be too spicy.

For a while, I used store bought chilli sauce or hot sauce to make my food spicy. But my food still tasted like something was missing, so I decided to start making my own chilli sauce.

The best thing about this sauce is the fact that it has more flavour than the store bough options.

Its preparation is easy as long as the right ingredients are available and the right steps are used.

Without wasting time, I will proceed to list the ingredients.

Ingredients For Hot Pepper Sauce

  • ½ tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp seasoning powder
  • 3 tbsp ginger & garlic paste
  • 14 Cayenne peppers
  • 16 scotch bonnet pepper
  • 4 Onions (medium size)
  • 4 bell peppers
  • 2 cups cooking oil
  • ½ tablespoon curry powder
  • ½ tablespoon dried thyme

For better context, the names of some ingredients are different in Nigerian local language.

Cayenne pepper is called shombo or bawa. Also scotch bonnet pepper is called ata rodo while bell pepper is known as tatashe.

This information would be of great help when shopping for ingredients in local Nigerian markets because many indigenous vendors identify easily with these names.

Now, below listed is the step-by-step process of how the ingredients above can be used to make chilli sauce.

How To Make Hot Chilli Sauce

  • Peel the skin of the onions
  • Put the scotch bonnet peppers, cayenne peppers, bell peppers and onions in a bowl of water
  • Clean the peppers with water and remove the green stalk on the pepper
  • Transfer the cleans peppers and peeled onions into your blender
  • Add ccoking oil
  • Blend to achieve a rough texture or consistency check the video
  • Set the cooker to medium heat
  • Place your preferred cooking pot or sauce pan on the cooker
  • Pour tthe blended pepper mix into the pan
  • Add salt, seasoning, garlic paste, ginger paste, curry powder and dried thyme.
  • Mix well and cook 45 minutes or till the oil begins to float.
  • While cooking, you have to mix every 5 -10 minutes.
  • After cooking, clean your storage bowls with soap and rinse with warm water.
  • Allow the liquid in the bowls dry out
  • Fill the bowls with the sauce.
  • Store some in the fridge for easy access
  • Keep the rest in the freezer to increase the shelf life.

Blending the ingredients with cooking oil potentially saves you a lot of cooking time.

The benefit of this sauce is the fact the a little goes a long way.
