Today, we will be making aadun.The process is simple and the outcome is delicious, so you will love it. All you have to do is to trust the process outlined in this recipe.

Aadun in English language means ‘sweetness’ or ‘goodness’. It is a traditional snack that is enjoyed by many Yoruba people. It is also used for different occasions such as christening ceremony, traditional marriage ceremony and others.

As a matter of fact, it is used in ceremonies to symbolise sweetness and goodness.

Ingredients for aadun

  • Dried white corn
  • 1/4 cup palm oil
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp chilli pepper

How to make aadun

  • First blend the dried white corn into flour
  • Measure one cup of corn flour into an old pot
  • Put the pot over the cooker set at low heat
  • Toast it by moving it around gently until it changes colour as can be seen in the video
  • After this, transfer the toasted corn flour into a bowl
  • Add the dried ingredients which are salt and chilli pepper
  • Then mix all three(3) ingredients together
  • Add palm oil in small batches about 2-3 tbsp each
  • Mix the palm oil very well with the corn flour while lightly pressing it to ensure the oil gets into it well.
  • Continue adding palm oil and mixing until it attains a silky texture.
  • When it turns silky, cover the boil with a lid
  • Allow it sit for 5 hours
  • Clean moi moi leaves with water
  • Dry the leaves till there is no moisture on it
  • After 5 hours, scoop the aadun into the leaves in small batches.
  • Wrap the leaf around the aadun

  • Tie it with strings to secure the snack like in the image above.
  • Repeat the process till everything has been wrapped
  • Allow it sit in the leaves for 1- 2hours
  • After this, aadun is ready to be enjoyed.

It is worthy to state that although aadun in English language means sweetness, this snack is actually has a savoury taste.
