This satisfying snack is not just a street food, it is perfect for parties, lunch, even dinner and it can be paired with a wide variety of drinks such as tea, hot chocolate, warm milk or any drink of choice.

Pie filling Ingredients

  • 600g basa fillet
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 onions
  • 3 potatoes
  • 4-5 carrots
  • 1 tbsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp curry
  • 11/2 tsp salt
  • 11/2 stock cubes
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper & sweet red pepper
  • 1 tbsp chopped chilli pepper
  • 11/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour

Pie dough ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 11/2tbsp sugar
  • 150g butter
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 eggs

How to make fish pie with Basa fillet

  • Peel off the skin of potato and clean in water
  • Cut them into small sizes and set aside
  • Repeat the process with the onions and carrot but dice them separately.
  • Heat up 1/3 cup vegetable oil and fry diced onions for 2-3minutes till it becomes fragrant.
  • Add thyme, curry, seasoning cubes and salt
  • Mix well and fry on low heat for 2 minutes
  • Add potatoes, pepper and 1 1/2 cup water.
  • Stir well to combine and allow to cook until potatoes are very soft.
  • After this, put Basa fillet in the pot also add the diced carrot too
  • If necessary, add little water and cook for 15-20 minutes on low heat till the fish is cooked.
  • Mash together to combine well
  • Add 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour, mix well to combine
  • Cook for 5 minutes more on low heat.
  • Allow the filling cool completely.
  • Prepare the dough while waiting for the filling to cool down.

  • In a mixer bowl add 4 cups flour, baking powder, butter, sugar and salt.
  • Mix till it looks like breadcrumbs

  • Add 2 egg and 1/4 cup water and mix again
  • Transfer to a clean, flat work surface
  • Knead lightly till it comes together but don’t overwork it.
  • Wrap nicely and allow to rest – it could be kept in a cool place like your fridge.
  • After 20-30 minutes, check the pie filling to be sure that it has cooled down completely.
  • Turn on the oven to 180 degrees to preheat it
  • To make this easy, share the dough into small balls
  • Lightly dust the work surface with flour and roll out all the dough balls.
  • Sprinkle some flour on your pie mould, place the rolled out dough on it.
  • Scoop some filling on to it.
  • Brush the sides of the dough with raw egg and close the pie mould.
  • Then remove the excess dough from the sides of the closed pie mould
  • Transfer into an oven tray lined with baking paper.
  • Repeat the process till it is all moulded.
  • Brush raw egg over the pastry.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes on 180 degrees
