Peppersoup is a popular ‘go to’ soup during cold seasons such as rainy season, autumn and winter.

Many Nigerians abroad always stock up pepper soup spice mix because its spicy taste keeps their insides warm when the weather is cold.

The medicinal spices used for peppersoup also serve as an immune system booster which helps to ward off cold and fortifies the body against other cold related illnesses.

Assorted meat peppersoup

Assorted meat pepper soup is a spicy watery soup cooked with an assortment of animal intestines used as food.

Examples of the insides of an animal used are ponmo, shaki (tripe), round about, abodi and many more.

Apart from assorted meat, peppersoup can be made with different types of fishes, beef, chicken and turkey.

Here are some other peppersoup recipes you should try.

The key ingredient in all peppersoup recipes is Peppersoup spice mix.

This spice mix is made up of an assortments of different native spices such as ginger, ehuru, gbafilo and many more.

I should inform you that to cook real native peppersoup you need authentic peppersoup spice mix with all the ingredients complete.

The great thing is, whether you use fresh catfish or chicken or even assorted meat just as I will be using for this recipe, when properly cooked the outcome is always delicious.

Assorted meat pepper soup ingredients

The ingredients for catfish pepper soup are listed below;

  • 4½ heaped tablespoons pepper soup spice mix
  • Assorted meat
  • 1 onion
  • 2 teaspoon Seasoning powder or 2 seasoning cubes
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 cups water
  • 5 Efirin leaves (scent leaves/basil)

As you must have noticed , you don’t need a lot of ingredients to make assorted meat peppersoup.

Dear Nigerians, because we love cooking with crayfish, I feel I should state it here that crayfish has no place in assorted meat peppersoup.

Please don’t add crayfish. Actually writing this makes me laugh out loud but thank you.

The quantity of meat to be use is intentionally left open so that you can work with your budget and you preference regarding the quantity of meat you like in your food.

So, now I will be writing about how to turn the pepper soup ingredients stated above into a delicious catfish pepper soup.

How to prepare assorted meat pepper soup

  • Peel and slice the onions
  • Clean the assorted meat well with water
  • Put the meat in your pot
  • Add sliced onions, 1 teaspoon seasoning powder, ½ tablespoon salt and water
  • Mix well
  • Cook for 30-40 minutes or till it becomes very soft.
  • While the meat is cooking, clean the efirin leaves in water and slice thinly.
  • When the meat becomes soft enough, add more water
  • Add peppersoup spice mix, ½ salt, 1 teaspoon seasoning powder
  • Mix very well
  • Cook for 20 minutes
  • After 20 minutes, add the sliced basil leaves
  • Mix gently and cook for 2-3 minutes

Assorted meat Pepper soup is Ready.

For me, I will be enjoying it with white rice and my favourite drink.
