In this blog post, I will share with you the recipe for fried rice.
Have you ever tasted delicious fried rice and wondered what it takes to make it.
Cooking shrimp fried rice at home is easy, I cooked it and it came out delicious as can be seen in the picture below.
Fried rice
But before I proceed, I would like to clarify that there are different types of fried rice.
Some of the different types of fried rice are; beef fried rice, chicken fried rice, sausage fried rice and many more.
Surprisingly, even though all the type of fried rice stated above are called fried rice, they have different ingredients’ and varying cooking procedures.
As a result of the cooking process of shrimp fried rice, there will be two (2) different lists of ingredients in detail.
The reason for this is to make this recipe easy for follow.
To cook this meal, the shrimps need to be prepared first. So the first list of ingredients is for cooking the shrimps.
Fried shrimp ingredient
- 500g red Argentinian shrimp
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
- 1 seasoning cube
- 125ml cooking oil
- ½ green bell pepper
- ½ orange bell pepper
- 3 bay leaves
- ½ cup sliced spring onion
How to make fried shrimp
- Clean and peel the shrimps or you can use already peeled shrimps
- Place the pan on the cooker
- Set the cooking heat to medium heat
- Pour the cooking oil into the pan
- Then allow the oil heat up well
- As soon as the oil is hot enough, put the shrimps in the hot oil
- Let the shrimps fry for 1 minute
- Afterwards , season the shrimps by adding curry, mixed herbs, seasoning cube, salt and bay leaves.
- Mix well then allow the shrimp fry for 1 to 2 minutes
- After 2 minutes, pour the sliced green and yellow bell peppers into the pan
- Also add the sliced spring onions
- Mix well then cover the pan
- Allow to cook for 2 to 3 minutes
- Scoop all the shrimps out of the pan into a bowl but leave the oil in the pan
- Set the bowl shrimp
Now that the shrimps are cooked and ready, I will proceed with the recipe on how to make shrimp fried rice at home.
First, the ingredients for the fried rice will be listed below
Fried rice ingredient
- 3 cups basmati rice
- 1 onion
- 1 red long pepper
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 table spoon salt
- 1 table spoon curry powder
- 1 table spoon mixed herbs (oregano, basil, thyme ,parsley, marjoram)
- 3 seasoning cubes
- ¼ cup carrot (chopped)
- ¼ cup sweet corn
- ¼ peas
- ¼ green beans
Here is how to make fried rice with shrimp. ½
How to make fried rice with shrimp
- Clean the peppers and onions
- Make pepper mix for the fried rice by roughly blending the bell pepper, long pepper and onions
- Pour the rice into a bowl and wash with clean water at least 2 times
- Place the pan containing the oil used to fry the shrimps back on the cooker
- Pour the pepper and onion mix into the pan
- Season to taste by adding the cooking spices such as mixed herbs, curry powder, salt and seasoning cube
- Mix well, cover the pan and let the sauce cook for 3 to 4 minutes
- Afterwards, add 4 to 5 cups of water and the washed rice
- Stir well
- Cover the pan with an aluminium foil then place the pot lid on it – the reason for covering the pan with aluminium foil is to keep the heat in
- Cook for 15 minutes on medium heat
- Once in a while during the 15 minutes open the pan to check the rice just to be sure the there is still enough liquid to cook the rice
Taste the rice to be sure that the fried rice is cooking to your taste – If needed, add more water in small quantity till the rice is soft enough to your taste.
- After 15 minutes check to ascertain if fried rice is soft enough to your taste
- Add the fried shrimps, green beans, peas, carrot and sweet corn
- Stir well, again cover with aluminium foil, place the the lid on it to keep in the heat
- Turn the heat down to low heat
- Steam for 2 to 4 minutes.
- finally, mix well and fried rice is ready.
Delicious shrimp fried rice is ready to be enjoyed.
