
Fried Potatoes
This is a comfort food enjoyed by many people. It is easy to make and very delicious.
As a matter of fact, fried potatoes is a popular street food sold with fried yams, akara, puff puff, buns and many more.
Potatoes cut into thick sizes are called wedges or chunks while the regular size cut are called fries.
In this recipe, I will share with you how to fry perfect potato at home especially when they are cut into thick sizes.
Also, there a cooking tip for you to make sure that while frying, they are cooked all through and still slightly brown on the outside.
Firstly before the steps to the cooking process are outlined, below is the list of ingredients needed.
Ingredients For Fried Potato
- Potatoes
- Salt
- cooking oil
- water
How To Fry Potatoes
- Peel the skin of the potatoes.
- Put the potatoes in water immediately after peeling off the skin to avoid discolouration
- Cut into desired sizes and preferred thickness.
- Then pour into a basket to drain off excess water.
- Season by adding ½ teaspoon salt to improve the taste.
- It is time for cooking so, set the cooker to high heat
- Pour about 2 cups of cooking oil into the pan.
- Place on the cooker and allow to heat it well for 2 minutes
- Test the hotness of the oil by putting 1 potato wedge in the oil – if it starts frying immediately, that means the oil is hot enough.
- Scoop some of the wedges into the hot oil
- Be careful not to add to many at one time
- Pour one tablespoon water into the oil – this will help the potatoes cook well from inside out without burning.
- After about 2 minutes of frying, turn the potatoes to the other side
- Allow to fry for about 90 seconds, then turn again.
- This time fry for one minute or till it achieves your preferred shade of golden brown.
- Scoop from the hot oil into the basket to remove excess oil
- Repeat this frying process till everything has been fried.
Potato wedges also know as fried potato is ready to be enjoyed.
